    The latest from the IFBB;

    PRESIDENT SANTONJA ON THE IFBB GROWING ACTIVITY

    „Our sport for Olympics will be classic bodybuilding” – President Santonja said at the Team Managers Meeting prior to the 2013 IFBB World Classic Bodybuilding Championships in St. Poelten, Austria. Then IFBB President informed about bodybuilding participation in the Olympic Program events – “Next weekend we will go to Peru to take part in the Bolivarian Games. Next year our sport will be official medal sport at the 2014 Asian Beach Games. In 2015 we will participate in the first European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan.” Dr. Santonja also expressed his satisfaction with the IFBB recent activity. “We are growing in all categories. Few years ago a contest with 100 participants was a big contest. Now we have over 800 competitors at Arnold Classic Europe and almost two hundred in Classic Bodybuilding only.”
    Our President also confirmed location of some top IFBB next year championships:

    2014 World Men Bodybuilding Championships: Brasilia, Brazil
    2014 World Fitness Championships: Montreal, Canada

    2014 Asian Championships: Colombo, Sri Lanka
    2014 European Juniors & Masters Championships: Santa Susanna, Spain

    We can see a tremendous sport activity in both Americas. President Santonja added that Aruba asked for the World Juniors and Masters Championships but to avoid so many expensive trips to America, it was postponed to 2015.

    IFBB newsletter focuses on Arab Championships which started yday;

    013 ARAB BODYBUILDING CHAMPIONSHIPS – FUJAIRAH, UAE by Andrew Michalak

    A series of four 2013 IFBB World Championships was ended in mid November in Austria, where the World Classic Bodybuilding Championships were held but – in opposite to previous years – it wasn’t the last IFBB big international event in the year. This Wednesday, Nov. 27th, the Arab Bodybuilding Championship starts in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. Later on, we can see two more big international events in the IFBB Calendar: Amateur Mr. Olympia (Dec. 05-07, Manama, Bahrain) and the 1st Ben Weider Diamond Cop (Dec. 13-15, Athens, Greece).

    This year’s Arab Championships will be the 20th edition of this event and are held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi – Crown Prince of Fujairah.
    Arab Championship has become more and more important IFBB event due to international successes of Arab bodybuilders at the word level and tremendous popularity of this sport among Arab societies, from Persian Gulf to the west coasts of Africa. At the latest IFBB World Men’s Championships in Morocco bodybuilders from Arab countries won 11 medals, including 3 gold medals.

    “This year’s Championships will be the biggest in the history of this event, attracting 17 countries (compared to 12 countries last year) and around 200 competitors, including 12 world champions” – Arab Bodybuilding Federation President Dr. Eng. Adel Fahim said during the Press Conference held at the official hotel on Tuesday. The Conference was attended by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Emirates Bodybuilding Federation (EBBF) first Vice-President Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi and second Vice-President, retired Brigadier Abdul Karim Mohammed Saeed.

    Mr. Saeed was a bodybuilding pioneer in the UAE. “I started with Al Ahli and held the first weightlifting competition in the UAE in 1974 because bodybuilding was not famous that time. From 1976 to 1978 I was at Al Shabab before going to Italy for a military course. After my return in 1981 to UAE, I started first gym in UAE – Bodybuilding Social Centre, which changed the name to the World Gym in 1984” – he said.

    EBBF had been a member of the other world bodybuilding organization for a couple of years but in December 2012 their Executive Council was reconstituted following a directive of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare (92/2012). H.E. Sheikh Maktoum bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi was elected new President. The new Executive Council’s primary objective was to reinstate EBBF as a IFBB member. Mr. Saeed was instrumental in realization of this purpose, having good relations with IFBB President Dr. Rafael Santonja and his Executive Assistant and IFBB Vice-President for Africa Dr. Eng. Adel Fahim.
    “I know them very well and started to communicate with them. I told them we really want their support to get back to the IFBB. They agreed and came to the meeting in Fujairah to welcome us back,” – Mr. Saeed said.

    New EBBF, affiliated with the IFBB as a 188 member, has become very active in all areas. In February they conducted a course for bodybuilding coaches. In April they organized a three-day seminar for bodybuilding judges. In June they staged the Fujairah Bodybuilding Championships. And now their biggest challenge – the Arab Championships.
    “UAE are able to organize the coolest Arab Championships. We will strive to provide a great Championship stands as the World Championships and to prove we can host the world’s biggest and largest global and regional Championships” – EBBF Vice-President Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Saif al Sharqi said at the Press Conference prior to the event. Does it mean that EBBF will apply for hosting the IFBB World Championships in the future? Why not?
    More details soon.
