Dr Rafael Santonja re-elected EBFF presidentAt the 2014 European Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Congress, which was an electoral congress as well, Dr. Rafael SANTONJA was unanimously re-elected EBFF President for the next four-year term. Dr. Santonja has been running the EBFF from its foundation in 2002. Under his management, the number of EBFF affiliated countries increased from 26 to 42 and Europe is still a leading continent in the IFBB and on the bodybuilding map of the world. Most of the top IFBB international events is hosted by the European countries and the most important one is to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 2015: the 1st European Games of the Olympic program, which will include Bodybuilding and Fitness sports.
Prior to the elections, Dr. Santonja delivered his comprehensive, Annual Report, showing his tremendous worldwide activity and passion to our sports, which has brought them to the highest level of popularity and prestige in Europe and in the world. The record-breaking participation of nearly 800 athletes in this year’s European Championships is the best evidence of the EBFF successful administration on the continent. We wish Dr. Rafael Santonja and all recently elected EBFF Executive Council members a successful next four-year term, which will have one outstanding task: to intensify and tighten cooperation with the European Olympic Committee and IOC and to get the Olympic recognition.

JUDGES SEMINAR IN CHINAChairman of the IFBB Judges Committee, Mr. Pawel Filleborn, traveled to China, just 24 hours after the very busy days at the 2014 European Championships in Santa Susana, in an authentic Marathon trip, to lead an International Judges Seminar organized by the Chinese Bodybuilding Federation CBBA and the IFBB.
72 judges attended the activity that included a complete update on International Rules and a study of new approved categories.
This activity follows the previous trip by IFBB President Dr Santonja to Beijing.
The Chinese Federation is an active member of the IFBB, that holds an intense program of national and international events, educational programs, in a successful promotion of our sport and life style in a country that makes up 20% of the World’s population.
OLYMPIA AMATEUR LATIN AMERICA IS DRAWING NEARThe Latin edition of this prestigious event is getting close, it’s dates set for June 12-16, 2014, and the host city is Acapulco, Mexico.
The event is open for South America, Central America and North America and Caribbean National affiliated Federations. Athlete registrations are conducted through their respective Federations.
The categories set for this event are:
•Men´s Bodybuilding: up to & incl. 70 kg, up to & incl. 75 kg, up to & incl. 80 kg, up to & incl. 90 kg, up to & incl. 100 kg, over 100 kg
•Men´s Physique: up to 170 cm, over 170 cm
•Women´s Physique
•Bikini-Fitness: up to 156 cm, up to 160 cm, up to 164 cm, over 164 cm
•Body-Fitness: up to 158 cm, up to 164 cm, over 164 cm
The daily schedule of this event is as follows:
•Thursday 12 – IFBB Executive Members Arrival
•Friday 13 – Official Arrival Athletes and Delegates, International Seminar

EBFF CONGRESS ELECTS EUROPEAN FEDERATION EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR THE PERIOD 2014-2018The European Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Congress, held on Sunday May 18th 2014 in Santa Susanna, during the celebration of the 2014 European Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships, gathered delegates from 42 European nations.
The agenda included reports on educational programs (more info at http://www.ifbbeducation.com), judges seminars and the upcoming events calendar that will be held in Europe (over 60 international competitions on the continent), some of the most important being: Olympia Amateur Europe in Prague, Czech Republic, World Children Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia, Arnold Classic Europe in Madrid, Spain, the World Classic Bodybuilding Championships in La Nucia, Benidorm, Spain, and the Nicole Wilkins Championships and Nordic Fitness Expo in Lahti, Finland.

KHALIL ASADI OF IRAN OVERALL WINNER AT THE 48th ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS IN SRI LANKA
A very successful Asian Championship took place this past weekend in Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka.
Athletes from 24 Asian countries participated in an event fully covered by national television, that also provided re-transmission to several other Asian countries.

IFBB SOUTH AFRICA EXECUTIVE MEETINGOn Friday 11 July 2014 the South African IFBB met for the Annual General Executive meeting. At the meeting the positive growth of IFBB in South Africa was evident with 47 events nationally this year. The announcement of the first Amateur Olympia Africa earlier this year, which will be on 25 and 26 October 2014, brought much excitement nationally and internationally. This will be the first time ever in South Africa that the IFBB will give 6 Pro Cards to amateur athletes. This event will host all Africa countries, Middle East and UK.We expect the biggest SA Championships 10 – 13 September this year as the South African team for the Amateur Olympia will be selected at this prestigious national event. The SA Championships will be hosted in Cape Town. Also the first Arnold Classic South Africa will be May 2016 in Durban. We are very excited and are looking forward to a very busy season.Fulfilling our mandate of development and transformation is of the highest priority and objective of this executive council.
We are looking forward in welcoming the International IFBB family to our beautiful country South Africa.

68TH WORLD MEN’S BODYBUILDING CHAMPIONSHIPS AND CONGRESS IN BRASILIA12 – 16 November 2014 – Brasilia, BrazilBrazil, the most renown country for sport in the XXI century, which hosted major sport events, will host the IFBB World Championships and Congress this year in Brasilia, its capital city, a unique and modern city created by the XX Century architecture genius, Oscar Niemeyer.Brasila will be the meeting point for the best world athletes in the 68th edition of the World Men’s Bodybuilding Championships, and officials participating at the World Congress. At the 2013 Asian Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness (AFBF) Congress in Almaty, Kazakhstan, AFBF President Sheikh Abdullah Bin Rashid Al Khalifa proposed to establish the AFBF Women’s Commission, with Dr. Reem Albareeq from Bahrain as a head, and this proposal was approved. Dr. Albareeq’s main goal was to popularize IFBB women’s sports in more Asian countries (than East and Central Asia only) and to guide competitive women’s athletes how to train and prepare for the championships. But who could expect that next year, in 2014, the first women’s physique contest will be held in the Gulf country? But this is a reality.
Dr. Albareeq told us – “I wanted to bring your attention to the Dubai Amateur Championship which will take place with the Dubai pro show in October. For the first time in history, a ladies fitness event will be done at the show in a Gulf country. UAE will be the first country in the Middle East to do such an event within the amateur championship and such a big step forward for the IFBB Asia women fitness. I’m very happy to see this change and encouragement of women to compete in the Middle East. And hopefully this continues.”
Women’s Fitness will be a part of a big four-day event: Dubai Fitness and Performance Classic 2014, which will include:
- Dubai Pro Open (Men’s Pro Bodybuilding) – October 1st, 2014 (Wednesday).
- Dubai Amateur Bodybuilding and Classic Bodybuilding Championships (3 bodybuilding bodyweight categories + classic bodybuilding open category) – October 2nd, 2014 (Thursday).
- Dubai-FPC Fitness Challenge (Crossfit), Men’s Physique and Women’s Fitness – October 3rd and 4th, 2014 (Friday and Saturday).
The venue for the competition (as well as for the big EXPO and seminars) will be the Dubai World Trade Centre, the second most visited EXPO Venue in the world, also hosts all major Middle East trade shows.
The event is organized under the patronage of the Asian Federation AFBF, Dubai Sports Council and Emirates Bodybuilding Federation. The Organizers says – “We have the TALLEST building in the world, the LONGEST building in the world , the BIGGEST man-made island in the world, the BIGGEST shopping mall in the world and the only 7 STAR HOTEL in the world.” Now they will host the FIRST Pro Bodybuilding contest in the Middle East, the FIRST Women’s Fitness contest in the Middle East and the FIRST Men’s Classic Bodybuilding contest in the Middle East.
And they add – “Our objective is a simple one, to create the GREATEST Fitness & Performance event in the world.” Knowing their possibilities, it is sure they are not joking!
The Women’s Fitness category will be open for ladies from the Middle East countries and will consist of the following four rounds:
- Prejudging: First Round (Fitness Routine)
- Prejudging: Second Round – Physique Assessment (Quarter Turns)
- Finals (top 6): Third Round (Fitness Routine)
- Finals (top 6): Fourth Round – Physique Assessment (Quarter Turns)
In the physique assessment rounds (quarter turns) competitors will perform in one-piece swimsuits, like in Bodyfitness few years ago. The swimsuit must cover 50% of the gluteus maximums muscle at least. Taking into account the Middle East tradition, habits and reality, it is a reasonable solution.
