2013 IFBB WORLD JUNIORS AND MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS
FIRST MEDALS DISTRIBUTED !by Andrew Michalak
The first part of the 2013 IFBB World Juniors and Masters Championships is over. The day started with two masters men oldest categories, which were dominated by very famous champions with long and full of successes competitive career. The first gold medal went to Aleksander Yashankin (Russia) – winner of the 60-65 years old open division, who regain the title won also at the 2012 Championships. The second “gold” went to Esmat Sadek of Egypt, who won the oldest class, over 65 years old. Previously, he was the world champion in 60-65 years old class and finished 2nd last year. Two great master stars who have turned “impossible” into possible, displaying fantastic body condition and muscularity despite of their age. Good role models to follow by all of us who believe in weight training and healthy lifestyle.
And there was one symbolic celebration: Mr. Dion Friedland of South Africa turned 70 this year and was awarded with a special IFBB Diploma presented to him by IFBB President Dr. Rafael Santonja and IFBB General Secretary William Tierney. Then the stage was taken by the younger generation. In junior women bodybuilding class the next tough battle between last year’s champion Sana Muslic (Bosnia & Herzegovina) and 3rd place winner Mihaela Serban (Romania). This time Serban showed bigger progress and won the title, leaving a bit too smooth Muslic in the 2nd place.
Junior women bodyfitness open class had its unquestionable favourite, current Women’s Worlds champion and 2013 Arnold Europe winner Adela Ondrejovicova (Slovakia). Adela won every contest she participated in this year and the same happened in Ulaanbaatar. She is simply unbeatable, maintaining the top body condition through a couple of weeks.
The next Slovak star with similar achievements is Dominika Multanova, who dominated junior women’s fitness short class, winning the Women’s Worlds and Arnold Europe earlier this year. Last year’s runner-up Kristina Koroljak (Estonia) found no way to stop Multanova and had to accept her second silver medal.
In junior women’s fitness tall class nobody came from the last year’s top 5, so the last year’s 6th place winner Aleksandra Zhilina (Russia) had a chance to advance to the top and she used up this opportunity, following a close battle against the European junior champion Endla Vaher (Estonia).
In junior women bikini fitness open class the current European junior champion and 2013 world women’s champion Sabina Plevakova (Slovakia) was unstoppable winning the third top title this year.
Italy sent only one competitor to these Championships but a very good one, who won the junior men bodybuilding lightweight, up to 75 kg. It was a singer (who was singing the Italian Anthem during the victory ceremony) Daniel Sticco but his muscle quality was also outstanding.
Two competitors dominated the field in junior men bodybuilding heavyweight, over 75 kg: Tim Budesheim (Germany) and Ahmed El Sayed (Egypt). Budesheim came in a glory of the 2013 Arnold Europe winner and regained the title won in 2011 (in 2012 he didn’t participate). But his main opponent, new Egyptian star Ahmed El Sayed was a very demanding rival. It’s a pity that only one gold medal could be presented. And this medal went to Budesheim, who used up his last chance, as he turns 23 and will go to seniors division next year.
Two 2011 finalists met in junior men classic bodybuilding and they dominated the line-up: Konrad Balcerzak (Poland) and Tomas Grib (Slovakia). Their battle ended with the same result like 2 years ago: Balcerzak was scored ahead of Grib but this time they earned gold and silver medals respectively.
Following this category, a very interesting overall battle was run, which brought the champion of the champions title to Budesheim.Unexpectedly, junior men’s fitness attracted as many as 9 competitors this time but nobody from the previous Championships. A double victory to Romania: Mihai Moruz took the 1st place, ahead of Lucian Popa. But I have to mention also the bronze medal winner Sergei Moroz (Russia), who performed an amazing routine but lost some points in the physique assessment round.
Junior men’s physique was run the second time at the Juniors Worlds but nobody came from the last year line-up, so all champions are new stars. The title went to Cemal Ozan Durmus of Turkey. Last year’s junior fitness champion Anghel Birica (Romania) won the silver medal, ahead of Lukasz Gnoza of Poland.
Master women bodybuilding was a very exciting category, with a top duel between Natalia Vtyurina (Russia) and Jana Bendova (Czech Republic). Vtyurina performed fantastic routine and was awarded the gold medal, with Bendova in the 2nd place.
Two categories closing that day were master women’s bodyfitness. In the first class, 35-45 years old division, Spanish star Yolanda Fernandez outscored two Norwegian stars: Solrun Stefansdottir (2nd place) and Jorun Steine (3rd place).
In the older division, over 45, last year’s champion Carina Isaksson (Sweden) presented outstanding body condition and easily won the title, ahead of her team-mate Maria Eriksson and very stylish Japanese lady Yumi Yamashita.Tomorrow the closing day of the Championships and next top emotions, with the rest of master men bodybuilding categories.
