IFBB & Spanish Federation, welcomes to the second edition of the Olympia Amateur Spain from the 10th to the 12th of June of 2016.

Mr. Olympia Amateur is an amateur version of the famous Mr. Olympia Pro competition, started by the inspirational concept of bodybuilding pioneer and promoter Joe Weider in 1965.

The event will be hold at the Palacio de Congresos Adolfo Suárez in Marbella, the world famous turistic resort capital of Costa del Sol, 50 kms away from Malaga.

Apart from men’s bodybuilding, our amateur version will also include men’s classic bodybuilding, men’s physique, women’s bodyfitness and bikini-fitness: all the physique sports performed in the IFBB.

IFBB SPRING COMPETITIVE SEASON IS PROGRESSING

    by Andrew Michalak

In the recent 2 weeks IFBB visited 3 continents: Europe (Diamond Cup in Zilina, Slovakia), Asia (50th Asian Championships in Beijing, China) and Africa (Arnold Classic Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa). Now we will be back in Europe, visiting Marbella, Spain, to take part in the Olympia Amateur Europe (June 11-12, 2016). If you want to be present at all these events, you will cover the distance of 26,771 km (16,634 mi)!

Marbella is a popular Mediterranean resort at the Costa del Sol, located between Alicante and the Strait of Gibraltar. It is famous of its nice year long weather, beautiful beaches and sky scrapers, including 434 hotels and… Palacio de Congresos Adolfo Suárez which will be the venue site for this event.

This year’s Olympia Spain will be the 2nd edition of this event. Based on the last year’s attendance and popularity, women’s bikini-fitness has been expended from 4 to 6 categories and muscular men’s physique category has been added (IFBB started it from the beginning of this year). So, this year’s Olympia Spain will be bigger (22 categories) and will attract more athletes (nearly 340).

Since the competition is open for all IFBB-affiliated National Federations from all over the world, 38 countries from 5 continents (Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America) registered their teams.

Olympia Amateur Spain program includes the following divisions and categories:

    – Men’s Bodybuilding: 70 kg, 80 kg, 85 kg, 90 kg, 100 kg, +100 kg

    – Men’s Classic Bodybuilding: 171 cm, 175 cm, 180 cm, +180 cm

    – Men’s Physique: 170 cm, 174 cm, 178 cm, +180 cm

    – Muscular Men’s Physique: open

    – Women’s Bikini-Fitness: 160 cm, 163 cm, 166 cm, 169 cm, 172 cm, +172 cm

    – Master Women’s Bikini-Fitness: open

    The frame of the activity:

June 10th (Friday), from 10:00 to 20:00 – Official Athletes Registration (the venue)

June 11th (Saturday), from 10:00 (one continuous session):

The stars? Many of top IFBB international contests winners decided to compete in Marbella. To mention biggest ones: 2016 Arnold USA bodybuilding

IFBB.com previews the bikini classes http://www.ifbb.com/2016/06/2016-olympia-amateur-spain-who-is-who/

    Quote

Bikini up to 160 cm: one superstar: 2015 South American Championships overall winner and 2016 Arnold USA 5th place winner Giannina Lujan-Ripoll (Peru). Then two finalists of the last year’s Olympia Spain: Leyri Blanco (3rd – Spain) and Zuzana Gabriskova (6th – Slovakia). Recently, Gabriskova finished 3rd at the IFBB Diamond Cup in Zilina, ahead of Andrea Neumannova (Slovakia) who also will be in Marbella. Then, 2015 Olympia Liverpool 3rd place winner Dóra Bodó (Hungary). Nice group of rising stars.

Bikini up to 163 cm: similar situation like in the previous class: one superstar: 2016 European champion Rocio Lopez (Spain) and several challengers like 2016 Arnold Africa 4th place winner Linda Illerstam (Sweden), 2015 Arnold Europe top 10 Laura Rodriguez (Spain), 2016 Loaded Cup 3rd place winner Daniela Halás (Czech Republic) or European Championships semifinalist Cristobalina Pajares (Spain). Altogether 14 athletes.

Bikini up to 166 cm: three great stars with equal potentials: last year’s Olympia Spain and Arnold Europe winner Ekaterina Krasavina (Russia), 2015 South American champion Eliana Medina (Venezuela) and 2014 Arnold Europe winner Frida Sjöström (Sweden). Krasavina also performed very well at the 2016 Arnold USA (3rd place) while Sjöström and both of them won a big international competition, so both of them may win in Marbella. Moldavian star and former European Championships medal winner Svetlana Lenivteva was not so impressive in Santa Susanna (10th place) and will want to return to the medal zone this time. But there will also be two successful competitors from the latest IFBB Diamond Cup in Zilina: the winner Federica Gobbetti (Italy) and 3rd place finisher Evgeniia Krasnova (Russia). Will they be successful in the battle against more experienced champions?

Bikini up to 169 cm: three finalists of the latest IFBB Diamond Cup in Zilina: runner-up Nikol Raszyková    (Czech Republic), 3rd place winner Jana Milova (Slovakia) and 4th position finisher Svetlana Elina (Russia). Plus finalist of the 2015 Arnold Europe Matilde Biagini (Italy), finalist of the recent European Championships Evita Breide (Spain) and finalist of the 2015 Olympia Prague Ewelina Szala (Poland). Many rising stars of the similar sport quality, so every result is possible.

Bikini up to 172 cm: the next top meet of 2015 World Championships runner-up Marina Krause (Germany) and 2016 European champion Saskia Cakoci (Slovakia). Quite recently Krause placed 2nd at the Arnold Africa in Johannesburg and Cakoci won the overall title in Zilina, at the IFBB Diamond Cup. Who will occur better in this clash of two megastars? Moreover, there are other serious candidates for the final victory: 2015 Arnold Europe winner and finalist of the World and European Championships Ekaterina Lapteva (Russia). May dream about the victory as well. Last year’s Olympia Spain winner Daniela Bečková (Czech Republic). Why not to win once again? Helga Stibi (Ireland) was 3rd last year in Spain and successfully started this season with 4th place in Columbus, Ohio, 4th place at the European Championships and 2nd place at the IFBB Diamond Cup in Zilina, losing only to the future overall winner Sandra Cakoci. She was so many times “almost” the winner, so why not to win this time? Nicole Tovey (Bermuda) will come across the Atlantic Ocean to display her great potentials. He was 3rd at the Arnold USA in Columbus earlier this year. So many stars in one category! Not so often we can see such group of stars,

Bikini over 172 cm: one girl seems to be a favorite: 2015 Olympia Liverpool winner and 2016 European Championships runner-up Catharina Wahl (Norway); however, she used to compete in the up to 172 cm class, being measured 171,8 cm tall. This time she has been entered in the tallest class. Official measurement in Marbella will clear this situation. If she qualifies to this class, her main opponents will be: former world junior champion and bronze medal winner at the latest European Championships and Diamond Cup in Zilina Yevheniia Suprun (Ukraine), European Championships finalist Szandra Horváth (Hungary) as well as 2015 Olympia Moscow runner-up Elena Isupova (Russia). Also two rising stars from Spain: Jagienka Kaminska-Maria and Arlene Perez. Wahl may be considered the favorite but the others may have an appetite for the final victory also.
